New route to Tenerife from London Southend Airport
easyJet, the UK’s largest airline, has announced its newest destination from London Southend Airport - the hugely popular island of Tenerife.
Tickets go on sale today – Tuesday 24 September 2013.
Over 11,000 passengers each year are expected to take advantage of the new twice weekly service each Tuesday and Friday between London’s newest airport and one of the youngest Canary Islands.
As the nights draw in and temperatures start to plummet in the UK, Tenerife’s stunning beaches and guaranteed sunshine are now within a 4-hour flight direct from London Southend Airport for as little as £33.49 one way, including taxes. Flights begin on 13 December 2013.
Famed for constant sunny days, minimal rainfall, volcanic origins and average year-round temperature of 22 degrees, the Canary Islands bask in 4,800 daylight hours each year and have a uniquely constant climate - making it the ideal destination for sun worshippers, water sports fans and those who love outdoor pursuits.
Hugh Aitken, easyJet’s UK Commercial Manager said “We’re absolutely delighted to be launching our 16th destination from London Southend to Tenerife. It’s the perfect winter sun destination and we’re sure it will be a big hit with our customers from Southend and the wider region. We have doubled the number of easy and affordable destinations available from London Southend since we launched at the airport in April 2012 to ensure that there really is an ideal destination whether travelling on business or for leisure, all year round.”
London Southend Airport Operations Director David Lister said“We are really pleased to add Tenerife to the destinations we offer here at London Southend Airport – recently voted Best Airport in the UK by Which? We are convinced it is going to prove hugely popular as it is without a doubt the one customers have been asking us for the most. Having just experienced our busiest ever summer with more than 230,000 people travelling through the airport, it is fantastic that we’re now able to add this much loved winter sun location to our list of destinations, giving people the chance to use their simply easier airport to go and top up their tans through the colder months.”
The announcement comes just three months after easyJet expanded its base at London Southend Airport by addinga fourth aircraft and three new routes to Newquay, Berlin and Krakow.
