easyJet has announced a new route to Venice from London Southend Airport - the first Italian route from the Essex terminal.
This takes the total number of destinations the UK’s largest airline flies to from its newest base to eleven.
easyJet currently operates morethan 70 flights a week from London Southend to nine destinations across Europe - Alicante, Amsterdam, Barcelona, Belfast, Faro, Ibiza, Jersey, Majorca and Malaga. Geneva and Venice will commence from this autumn.
Flights to Venice are available to book from today (19 April 2012) with fares starting from £22.99 (one-way, including taxes). The inaugural flight will depart from London Southend Airport on 8 February 2013.
The 4-times-weekly service will provide easy and affordable travel to both business and leisure passengers looking to fly to the unique Italian city.
Venice closely follows the airline’s recent announcement of its first ski route to Geneva from the airport. Flights to Geneva will operate three times a week from 14 December, with fares starting from £22.99 (one-way, including taxes).
Hugh Aitken, easyJet UK Commercial Manager, said “We started flying from London Southend on 2 April and have been really pleased with the operation at the brand new terminal. We’re excited to be expanding our London Southend operation so soon after launch. The two new routes from London Southend Airport is another example of our commitment to our customers from Essex and we believe this makes it the ideal gateway for both business and leisure travel across Europe.”
Alastair Welch, London Southend Airport Managing Director, said “The addition of Venice and Geneva to our growing portfolio of routes from London Southend is testament to how positively our revitalised airport has been received by easyJet and the travelling public. The last two to three weeks since their operation began, have been the most exciting at this airport in a long time and we look forward to providing a better London airport experience to even more passengers, skiers and city breakers alike, with these additional routes.”
Situated on the north east Italian coastline, Venice is renowned for its beauty, architecture and artwork. Thanks to its numerous cultural attractions such as the Grand Canal, Venice has become a luxury city break destination attracting tourists from across the globe.
