New joint policy for the development of Southend Airport launched.
A joint policy for the development of Southend Airport has been launched by Southend Borough Council
and Rochford District Councils.
The Joint Area Action Plan has been welcomed by the airport operators, Southend Airport Company and
by the many companies based on the airport.
The airport company, a subsidiary of Regional Airports Limited (RAL), who also own and operate Biggin
Hill Airport in South London, has recently appointed ex BAA man, Alastair Welch, 39, as Managing
Director of Southend Airport.
Commenting on the future of Southend Airport, Andrew Walters, Chairman of Southend Airport, said
“this new JAAP will be running together with our own study of strategic options as to how we develop
both Southend Airport and our approved railway station in time for the Olympics.
The airport is in the Thames Gateway regeneration zone and located to the east of London, alongside
the main railway line into London Liverpool Street Station. It is being developed as important new
infrastructure for both the Thames Gateway and London.
This is an exciting time for Southend Airport and we are receiving many encouraging offers of support
and investment.
